The days are getting longer, the temperatures are warming up and signs of spring are beginning to pop all over town!
Springtime in the Wilmington area has always been a favorite for locals, and a big draw for visitors. The charm of the city comes to life, and there are many ways to experience it. One of the first indicators that spring is in the air? The blooming azaleas! With this comes the annual affair known as the North Carolina Azalea Festival. Ranked as a top 20 event by Southeast Tourism Society, it's a must do! This festival is a multiple day event, featuring music, pageantry and various events honoring the historic tradition of our coastal community. History comes to life and there are activities for the whole family to enjoy. We invite you to come and experience it for yourself.
Additionally, as thoughts turn to spending more time outside, there are plenty of other places to visit and enjoyable activities to participate in.
Let's explore a few popular examples:
Enjoy a scenic stroll down this mile long stretch of boardwalk located downtown along the Cape Fear River.
Battleship (USS North Carolina)
Located across the river from downtown Wilmington, this historic memorial is open every day of the year(varying hours) for tours. Take a step back into history as you explore the refurbished WWII Battleship.
Wilmington Historic District
One of the largest districts listed with the National Register of Historical places, downtown Wilmington is rich with history, southern charm, fine dining, shopping, arts, and so much more.
Airlie Gardens is a gorgeous public garden open year round. Visitors are treated to 67 acres of lush gardens, walking paths, amazing live oaks, and a wealth of history.
One of the biggest attractions in our area! There are many beaches to choose from, come and enjoy sun, sand and crystal blue water!
Spring is in bloom and there's no shortage of fun in this amazing town of ours. Wilmington is a coastal treasure, and we are proud to call it home.
It is our goal at The Coastline NC Real Estate Team to bring you the latest real estate developments happening in southeastern North Carolina and the news of Pine Forest hitting the marketplace is hot on our radar.
This new coastal community, Pine Forest of Oak Island, will feature an integrated regional healthcare campus with residential living, recreation, shopping, and dining on over 2,000 acres. The first few pieces of this beautifully planned community have already begun — Novant Health is now open and Affinity Living Group broke ground in early 2018.
The local community of Brunswick County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state due to the many benefits of the local area and the beautiful North Carolina coastline.
Active adult retirees in Southeastern North Carolina often must transition from fully independent living to assisted living or skilling nursing facility, with very little in between to support differing levels of self-sufficiency. Pine Forest of Oak Island looks to bridge that gap with its integrated health continuum of care, providing access to personal and concierge services, and medical care as needed, while allowing for a full active lifestyle, all within a carefully preserved natural setting ideal for walking, biking, and more.

Thanksgiving is all about family, counting your blessings, amazing food and all the tried and true traditions you’ve enjoyed for years. I’m sure that if we asked around, we would hear a familiar order of events at most family holiday gatherings…lots of cooking and overeating, football and the Macy’s Day parade; to name a few. As fun as those traditional holiday experiences are, it may be time to kick it up a notch and start some new fun traditions for the whole family!
It’s a perfect time to celebrate all that you’re thankful for by giving back to the community and people less fortunate than you. Reach out to your local foodbank or homeless shelter and volunteer to assist in the kitchen or serving food that day. What better way to teach your children about giving back than to devote your time to the service of others? Those memories and life lessons will last a lifetime!
If time or opportunity to volunteer is an issue, pass around the family offering plate and pool your funds to donate to a charity or a family in need. Make it a tradition to decide together which charity to give to or let each member take a turn choosing a cause they have a passion for. Even the little ones can get in on the giving spirit by going through old clothes and toys to donate to your local Goodwill donation center. Clean out the closets in time for Christmas and start a tradition you can feel good about!
Most of us are fortunate enough to get to spend Thanksgiving with our favorite family members….and even put up with the crazy ones! But, not everyone is so lucky. Wouldn’t it be a treat to visit a local nursing home or hospital and spend time with those that can’t be with their loved ones? Take some time to spread the love and give someone else something to be thankful for!
We would be remiss if we overlooked everyone’s favorite tradition….eating too much! We all have our favorite holiday dish; why not have everyone in the family contribute the recipe to their signature dish and compile a family cook book? Pass out copies to the whole family as Christmas gifts or pass them down to future generations to keep the tradition alive!
After eating all that delicious Thanksgiving Day cuisine, get everyone moving and support a good cause. Sign the family up for a Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot, burn some calories and help give back to the community. That is a gift that keeps on giving!
“Life is about the adventures you take and the memories you make. So travel often and live life with open eyes and an open heart.” — Katie Grissom
